HERALD SCHOLARSHIPS
FINALISTS FOR WAIKATO FURTHER TESTS AT MANGERE Seven finalists for tho New Zealand Herald Aviation Scholarship, tenable* at the Waikato airport, Rukuhia, are announced by Flight-Lieutenant W. H. Lett, Auckland Aero Glub instructor in tho Waikato. It was originally planned to choose six finalists from the Waikato and six from Auckland for the second scholarship, but Mr. Lett found it impossible to reduce the number to <iess. than seven. The Auckland finalists will be announced toward the end of this month. The successful Waikato candidates are as follows: —Miss B. Turner (Tauranga), Miss J. Howden (Waiuku), Mr. D. Carlson (Okoroire), Mr. A. Yeoman (Taneatua), Mr. F. J. Steelo (Rukuhia), Mr J. E. Rowland (Tauranga), and Mr. W. H. Brown (Hamilton). Elimination tests will be held at llukuhia at 9 a.m. on Sunday, April 19, i£ tho weather is suitable, and the winner will then be announced.
Preliminary testing of candidates for the scholarship to bo held at tho club's Auckland headquarters at Mangere is still in progress, about 17 applicants remaining to bo examined. They will be tested before April 16, and the list of finalists will be published in the New Zealand Herald as soon as it has been compiled. The winners of both scholarships will bo given free tuition until they have qualified for A licences, arid will also become pilot members of tho club for this year. Tho other finalists will be granted the privileges of associate riiembership for the same period.
