GOLF CLUB DANCE An enjoyable dance to celebrate the opening of tlxe season of the Rotorua Golf Club was held in the clubhouse at the week-end. The reception lounges were brightly arranged with lacquer red dahlias and dancing took place in the dining room and on the spacious verandah adjoining. Among those present were: —Mrs. W. S. Wallis, Mrs. M. D. Carr, Mrs. E. Lynne Barker, Mrs. J. Thorpe (Timberlauds), Mrs. D. H. Hay, Mrs. F. W. Wilkie, Mrs. J. H Herrold, Mrs. It. Copeland Smith, Mrs. F. C. Bunyard, Mrs. P. Gibbs, Mrs. T. Humphries, Mrs. C. Young, Mrs. C. Hitchcock, Mrs. H. E. Goodwin, Mrs. Grimshaw, Mrs. Burmister (England), Miss T. Moon, Miss G. La Trobe Hill, Miss J. Meredith, Miss J. Isdale, Miss V. Steele, Miss V. Fenton, Miss J3. Johnstone, Miss V. Snell, Miss Jenkinson.
Members of the gardening circle of the Rotorua Women's Club were entertained at the home of Mrs. J. McDowell, Lytton Street, this week. The hostess was assisted by Mrs. S. Hale. A competition, "leaves of shrubs and plants," was won by Mrs. Riddle. Among those present were: —Mesdames G. French, E. A. Meredith, E. J. Carroll, C. Newson, J. Skeno Dixon, S. Dalgliesh, J. Bleucowe, Larnacli, Quinlan, Riddle, A. Peace. The first meeting for the year of the Rotorua branch of the League of Mothers was held in St. John's Hall this week, the president, Mrs. lvussell Gardner, presiding over a good attendance of members and friends. During the afternoon Mrs. Edwards gave a brief but interesting report upon the recent league conference which she had attended in Auckland. Mrs. Quinlan, who was also present at tho conference, read a paper on the original work of the League of Mothers, which had been compiled by the Rotorua representative on the provincial council, Mrs. Utting. A musical programme arranged by Mrs. B. M. Green was an enjoyable feature of tho gathering. Hostesses for the afternoon were:—Mesdames R. Gardner, Chambers, Quinlan, Harris, G. French, R. Tucker, A. Miller, Main, Edwards, Goddard, Green and Newson.
