THE ASSOCIATION GAME

ENGLISH TROPHY MATCH CHALLENGE FROM CANTERBURY A challenge from the Canterbury Association for the English trophy was accepted by tho control board of the Auckland Football Association at its meeting last evening. It was decided to submit May 30 and June 6 as tentative dates for the match to be played at Blandford Park. Considerable discussion ensued from a suggestion from tho senior division committee relative to clubs utilising the services of Navy players while they were in port. Several reasons were advanced in support of the suggestion that this practice should be stopped and the board agreed. It was therefore decided that clubs would not be allowed to sign on Navy players in future. It was agreed to open the season on Saturday week with practice games. Several teams intimated their desire to play on that day and it was decided that the following matches would be staged at Blandford Park, Eastern Suburbs v. Philomel, and Thistle v. Mount Albert Grammar Old Boys. The question of the appointment of a sole selector was deferred until tho next meeting of the board.
