TRAINING COLLEGE HEADS
WELLINGTON APPOINTMENTS AUCKLAND TEACHER CHOSEN [by telegraph—PßESS association] WELLINGTON, Friday The appointment of Mr. F. C. Lopdell, M.A., as principal and Mr. F. L. Combs, M.A., as vice-principal of the Wellington Teachers' Training College, which reopens next Monday, was announced to-day. Mr. Lopdell is at present vice-principal of the Auckland Training College, and Mr. Combs is headmaster of the Miramar South primary school. Mr. Lopdell was appointed viceprincipal of the Auckland Training College in 1929, and during 1934, when the college was closed, he was inspector of schools in Auckland. He resumed his duties of vice-principal of the college when it was reopened. Mr. Lopdell has had considerable teaching experience. He was a pupil teacher at the Invercargill middle school for three years, and fourth assistant for four years. After serving as second assistant at the Geraldine district high school for a year, he saw three years' service in the Great War. Following a period as headmaster of the Waituku school, he was appointed assistant master of the Southland Technical School. Mr. Lopdell was a lecturer under the Workers' Education Association for five years in history, economics and education. He has a good sports record, having played in the first fifteen of the Invercargill Rugby Football Club and represented Otago in hockey. >
