TEMPERANCE WORKERS
PRESENTATION EVENING NEW ZEALAND ALLIANCE A large and representati% r e gathering took place in tho Sunday School Union Hall on Thursday evening, in honour of Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Falkner. Mrs. H. Kasper and Miss McLeay, represented the W.C.T.U., Mr. Pace, the Good Templars and Rcchabites. Mrs. Carr, the Rev. E. T. Olds, and Messrs. J. Fleming, J. Banbury, M. Glaister and F. Caley spoke on behalf of temperance workers generally.The Rev. J. Olphert, president of the Auckland area of the New Zealand Alliance, presided, and on behalf of many subscribers presented the guests of the evening with a cheque for £56. In doing so Mr. Olphert spoke in glowing terms of the long and able service given by Mr. Falkner, assisted bv his wife. In his' replx, Mr. Falkner said he began as a boy in the Band of Hope Choir, became' conductor of the May celebrations, and a prohibition speaker, and secretary of the movement in Auckland. Musical items were provided by Miss Jump, Mesdames Patterson, TaskerBrown, Walsh, Lewis and Carr, and supper was provided by the ladies.
