WORLD EVENTS FILMS
NEWSREEL ARTICLES
A marked step forward, and one that should have wide -public support among those favouring news reels in the fcinemas, has been taken by R.K.0.Jladio pictures in conjunction with Time, the-American news magazine. Instead of brief glimpses of outstanding events, the new reels, under the heading of "The March of Time," give, as it were, special articles on -the news. Examples •were presented at a preview at the JRegent Theatre this week. Especially (topical was one dealing with Japan. In a remarkably short space of time ithe film depicted the development of {Japan's campaign in China and its call jfor equality for its citizens in all places jt>f the, world. Thus a map of China was fchown and before the eye the limits iof Japan's advances were depicted, the scene ending with a picture of Japanese soldiers on the Great Wall waiting "to see what the world has to say about it." The film then turned baxjk the years to* the framing of.the Articles of the League of Nations and the attempts _ r of'.the Japanese .delegates to have incorporated ttn equality of rights clause. It if -shown how rejection of this article has been one cause of Japan's arming, the scenes coming forward to show troops on the march and the Navy on manoeuvres. Of special interest are scenes depicting a number of the Japanese leaders, some'of whom are mentioned prominently in this week's cable news. Other subjects treated in the first series of the special films are the transpacific air service and its relation to world trunk air serviced, and the settlement of the Jews in Palestine. The films will have their initial public showing in Auckland next week.
