BOY'S DEATH
RUN OYER BY BUS ~ ACCIDENT AT OTAHUHU WHEEL PASSED OVER BODY Fatal injuries were received by a schoolboy, Ralph Atha, aged 11, the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. 0. Atha, of Sylvia Avenue, Westfield, at Otahuhu yesterday afternoon, when lie -was run over by the rear wheel of a large passenger bus. The accident occurred at the bus terminus at the intersection of Mangere and Awa Roads, almost opposite the t Otahuhu Technical High School, which-, the boy attended. The bus, which was one of the Passenger Transport Company, Liraited's, fleet and driv&n by Mr. T. Crichton, arrived at tliel terminus from the city about 3.40. following the usual practice, the bus was driven into Awa Road and then backed slowly to the stop on Mangere Road.; The lad crossed the road from the school gateway and passed close behind the bus. It is thought 1 that he slipped in the path of the backing vehicle and the rear wheel passed over him. H«» was carried to a neighbouring shop, and Dr. E. R. Lange, of Otahuhu, was called. A St. John ambulance was also summoned, but the boy died as it arrived about 20 minutes later, after a speedy run from the city. An inquest will be opened at Otahuhu to-day before Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S t il.
