GENERAL MOTORS COMPANY MANAGING DIRECTOR RETIRES The retirement has been announced of Mr. W. McHardy Forman, managing director of General Motors (New Zealand), Limited. At the request of the parent company, Mr. Forman will remain permanently in New Zealand as resident director to act in an advisory capacity. Mr. Forman has been managing director of the company in New Zealand for tho past eight years, and during that time has been responsible for instituting many new developments in the motor industry in the Dominion. Under his direction the policy of assembing completely knocked-down motorcars from the parent factories overseas was brought to its present high level of efficiency. In this connection, Mr. Forman encouraged the use of local materials and he was largely responsible for the introduction of Dominion-made upholstery in motor-cars, and also for the use of New Zealand timber in building commercial bodies. Under his control, too, the personnel of the company in New Zealand became entirely British, and he has seen to it that numerous young New Zealanders on his staff have had opportunities for experience in specialised activities overseas.
