MELBOURNE TRACK NEWS ARRIVAL OF CABALIST (Received February 23. 5.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Feb. 23 Cabalist has arrived from Sydney with a view to contesting the Newmarket Handicap on Saturday. At Flemington yesterday Cardinal and Dick Devon galloped seven furlongs on the course proper in 1.32, tho best of the morning. MISHAPS TO HORSES RACEFIELD DESTROYED Tho five-year-old gelding Racefield, by Racei'ul —Steinliill, broke a pelvis bone while competing in tho Waikato Hack Cup at To Rapa on Saturday and was destroyed. Three other horses, Wait and See, Abbess of Whitby and Tudor, also received injuries. Wait and See fell about 50 vnrds from the post in the Storey Memorial Handicap, crashing into the rails and sustaining a severe wound on tho forelog. She bled freely, but soon received attention from her trainer, C. Morse, and Dr. W. C. Ring. Tho wound necessitated a number of stitches and it will probably take Wait and See some time to recover. Abbess of Whitby met with some trouble in tho straight while contesting the Juvenile Handicap and, after being pulled up,, came in very lame in front. The good juniper Tudor was also very lame after running in the Frankton Hurdles and his immediate prospects do not appear bright. The judicial committee held inquiries regarding tho mishaps to Wait and See and Abbess of Whitby. Both were found to bo accidental and duo to them getting on the heels of other horses.
