IRRECOVERABLE RATES
WRITING OFF OF £4728 CITY COUNCIL'S DECISION Rates regarded by the city treasurer, Mr. A. Messer, as irrecoverable and totalling £4728 were written off by the City Council last night, on the recommendation of the Finance Committee. A schedule prepared by Mr. Messer showed that irrecoverable rates on Crown properties, the arrears going back as far as 1927-28, amounted to £2371. Arrears of rates owed by ordinary ratepayers and regarded as irrecoverable amounted to £2357.
