CHILDREN'S CARNIVAL

FETE AT CARLAW PARK Carlaw Park was en fete on Saturday afternoon when the junior league of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals held its first children's carnival. The various items on the programme were quite in keeping with the atmosphere of the afternoon, for the actors were all children or trained animals, whose respective turns were loudly applauded by the appreciative spectators in the grandstand. There was a remarkable number of entries in the " pets' parade " contest, which was under the convenership of Mr. Guthrie. The judges for this special feature were Mrs. W. W. Averill, Mrs. E. B. Gunson, Dr. Gladys Montgomery, Major H. C. Nutsford and Mr. A. E. Jackson. The prizes were presented by Mrs. E. Burton, honorary organiser of the junior league and convenor of Saturday afternoon's function. The reception committee comprised Mrs. Spencer Mason, chairman of the ladies' committee, Mrs. B. J. Marquet, Mrs. A. P. Frankham and Miss Ina Wight, assisted by si large committee of ladies of the society. Among those present were:—Sir George and Lady Elliot, the Hon.
