TE PUKE NEWS
Mr. W. E. Butcher, who held the position of secretary of the Te Puke Tennis Club for three years, and who has left to take up studies at the Training College,' Auckland, was the guest of the members of the club at the tennis courts last week. Mr. W. Potter, on behalf of members of the club, presented Mr. Butcher with a silver pencil, as a token of esteem and appreciation of his services to the club. A most successful dance was held in the Papamoa Hall under the auspices of the Papamoa Hall Society. There was a large attendance, which included visitors from Mount Maunganui, Katikati, Rotorua, Tauranga and Te Puke. Kxcellent music was supplied by Castleton's Orchestra, from Rotorua.
The Pongakawa branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union held its February meeting last Wednesday, Mrs. Law presiding over a good attendance. A report of the midsummer conference of the Women's Division held in Hamilton was submitted by Mrs. Law (Tauranga provincial delegate) and Mrs. Hickson (delegate for Pongakawa). At the conference it was decided to send Mrs. Duncan Simpson and Miss Fraser as delegates to the American Conference of the Women of the World at Washington. A competition for plum jam was won by Mrs. Cawte, while the best bloom in the garden was won by Mrs. Milsom, with Mrs. Cawte second. Afternoon tea was served by Mrs. D. AVickhain and Mrs. F. Walters. Mr. and Mrs. G. Cook have left Te Puke for a fortnight's holiday at Milford.
Sirs. L. Manning has left on a visit to her parents in Auckland.
Miss Gladys Fagan has returned from a week's holida}' spent in Auckland.
