FRESH RECORDS CREATED NEW DERBY REGISTERS 4.24 FASTEST TIME TO EVICUS (Received February 16. 5.30 p.m.) PERTH. Feb. 15 The third series of tho inter-Dominion trotting championships were held at Perth to-night and were a brilliant success. The weather was ideal, the track perfect, and there was a great attendance. New Derby received an ovation for creating a new state record of 4.24 for two miles in the first division, beating the existing record by 3j[ seconds. New Derby's feat was eclipsed in the second division when Evieus and Minton Ribbons, the minor place-getters, registered 4.23, thus creating a new Australian record and lowering Sheik's 4.24 by a second. Auburn Lad, having gone amiss, was withdrawn from all engagements. TRAINING AT ELLERSLIE SMART SPRINTS RECORDED » The No. 1 grass track, with the poles out 10ft., was open for fast work at Ellerslie on Saturday. The going was excellent and among those to work well were Sir Abb, Gay Marigold, Valspear, Gay Defence, Whirlmint and Spearcourt. Roman Mascot covered a circuit in 1.59 2-5, the last seven furlongs in 1.37 4-5. She has been doing all her work in good style. Knight of Australia and On Parade, j with the assistance of Wee Pat over the last five furlongs, encompassed a round in 1.58. Wee Pat finished ,in front of the other pair after taking 52s for the last half-mile. Lone Flier sprinted three furlongs in 41 4-ss, and Mainland comfortably ran five furlongs in 1.8. Red Flame, assisted by Fleetwind over the last five, went six furlongs in 1.191-5, Fleetwind finishing just in front after taking 1.6 1-5 for the last live. Gay Marigold ana Sir Abb were on terms at the end of five furlongs in 1.4. Both did their work well. ran five furlongs in 1.6 2-5. She has plenty of speed and is working in good style. They continue to show steady progress. * Persian Lady was going comfortably while running five furlongs in 1.8 2-5. Gay Princess did well for a novice in sprinting half a mile in 51 3-ss. Kelly was going very nicely alongside Courthaven at tho end of six furlongs in 1.18 1-5. Kelly carried a lightweight but went very freely. Vera Acre, assisted by King Mestor over tho last half-mile, ran seven furlongs in 1.35 2-5, the last half-mile taking 525. Vera Acre did her work well and could have improved on tho time recorded. King Mestor has just resumed work after meeting with a mishap at Thames. Gay Defence sprinted half a" mite in 50 3-ss. He continues to do excellent track work. Whirlmint pleased more than Spearcourt over half a mile in 50 3-ss, a good effort for maidens. Spearcourt shaped well for one who has done little fast work of late. Poi Dance, Gascillc, Gallant Knight. Professional, Ringshot, Marjory Daw and Town Beauty were among others to do easier tasks. Tea Chat (Sharkey) cleared four hurdles without mistake. Ho is an excellent fencer but not a'good stayer. United (Seagar) jumped six small hurdles in satisfactory stylo. To Kapia (Sharkey) gave an improved display while jumping three hurdles.
