CHARGE OF THEFT
LABOURER REMANDED " If bail is granted, I would ask that it be substantial. Accused was arrested at Maramarua yesterday, and made a determined attempt to escape on arrival at the Auckland railway station," said Senior-Detective Hall, when Leslie Wilfred Guildford, labourer, aged 30, appeared in the Police Court on Saturday morning. Accused was charged with stealing, at Otahuhu on January 18, a silver watch, watch pouch, and gold ring, of a total value of £5 14s 6d, the property of James Gordon Gillard. On Senior-Detective Hall's application, accused was remanded until next Saturday, bail of £IOO being allowed bv the magistrate, Mr. Wyvern Wilson.
