ACCIDENTS AT SHOW

MAN KICKED BY HORSE RIDER THROWN FROM MOUNT [from OUR OWN' correspondent] PUKEKOHE, Sunday Two accidents occurred at the Franklin Show at Pukekohe yesterday. The well-known breeder and exhibitor of draught horses, Mr. Herbert James Flay, of Bombay, received serious abdominal injuries through being kicked by one of his horses, while a rider in the Pakuranga Hunt event, Mr. Terence Nolan, of Papatoetoe, suffered fractures of both collar-bones when his horse failed to clear one of the jumps. Mr. Flay was getting his horses together in readiness for going home when one of them kicked out backwards, Mr. Flay receiving tho full force of the kick. Dr. F. W. Lumsden, of Pukekohe, was on the ground and attended the injured man, who was removed to his home. Later, however, he was admitted to the Auckland Hospital in a St. John ambulance, his condition having become serious. Mr. Flay is one of the oldest residents of Bombay and he is a member of the Franklin County Council. Mr. Nolan received his injuries when the horse he was riding failed to rise at a wire jump and fell. Mr. Nolan was thrown heavily and was attended by Dr. H. S. Douglas. Ho was later able to return to his home. Pending tho arrival of a doctor, first aid was rendered to both Mr. 1' lay and Mr. Nolan by members of the Pukekohe division of the St. John Ambulance Brigade, who were on duty on the ground.
