PRICE OF BREAD
TWO-POUND LOAF FIXATION BY BAKERS RELIEF WORKERS' COUPONS ABOLITION RECOMMENDED The prices for a 21b. loaf of bread delivered in Auckland will in future bo 5Jd cash on delivery, and 6d booked. These prices, which will come into operation to-day, were decided upon by the baking trade on Saturday night, as. the Government's new regulations have fixed only the wholesale price, and the price over the cotinter. The meeting, which was attended by a largo number of master bakers, also fixed the price of Vienna bread over the counter at 6d a loaf, and recommended that the Auckland Master Bakers' Association should consider the early abolition of the special concession to relief workers by means 'of the coupon system in order to conform with the Government regulation that broad should not be sold at less than sd. It was also decided to recommend to the Government that every baker and reseller of bread should be licensed under the Board of Trade Act. The advantages of this procedure were stated to be an effective control of all those concerned with the sale of bread, and an assurance of compliance with the Board of Trade regulations. Mr. Claude Cowan presided at the meeting, which was held in the Chamber of Commerce Hall.
Mr. S. S. Green, secretary of tho Auckland Master Bakers' Association, reported on the proceedings of the New Zealand conference of master bakers held in Wanganui last week, making special reference to the report of the deputation that had waited on tho Minister of Labour and the Minister of Industries and Commerce.
The other Auckland delegates, Messrs. Cowan, A. E. Brownlio and A. I). Cornes, also reported on the work of the conference.
