SALES TAX BREACH PENALTY OF £25 IMPOSED A firm of manufacturing chemists, Harper Products, Limited, was charged with a breach of the Sales Tax Act, 1932-33, in tho Police Court yesterday, before Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M. The defendant firm, which entered a plea of guilty, was represented by Mr. Cyril Sneddon. Mr. 11. Meredith, who prosecuted, said that as a firm registered as wholesalers, it was called upon to make a return of tho aggregate amount of sale value of taxable gooxls. This had not been done and under the Act tho minimum line was £25. Mr. Snedden said that a return had been made, but owing to an oversight it had not been forwarded to the Taxation Department. He requested that not more than the minimum penalty bo imposed. A fine of £25 was inflicted, plus costs and solicitor's fee of £2 2s.
