CONTROL OF WHEAT
CANADIAN VENTURE "SPECTACULAR GAMBLE" (Received February 14. 5.5 p.m.) OTTAWA. Feb. 13 Canada's wheat control venture under the late Bennett Government was described in the House of Commons today as the world's most spectacular gamble. It is to.be investigated by a special committee of the House. The Minister of Trade and Commerce, Mr. W. D. Euler, announced during a heated debate Government had inherited a 200,000,000 dollars commitment from Mr. John I. McFarland's Wheat Board, which operated under Mr. Bennett's orders to buy and hold. The new board had sold 65,000,000 bushels in the first six weeks without "crashing" world prices, under orders to sell.
The Conservatives contend that Mr. McFarland's dismissal was not justified.
