EMPIRE AIR ROUTES

SCHEME FOR SEADROMES INVENTOR'S PROPOSITION LONDON. .Tan. 16 The Daily Mail gives prominence to a scheme conceived by Mr. F. G. Creed, inventor of tape machines and the teleprinter, fos placing seadromes of his own- design, each with a 1500 ft. runway, along Empire cable routes, thereby obviating, along the air routes, dependence upon foreigners. Mr. Creed suggests that each seadrome should bo linked with a cable to which would bo affixed repeaters to increase the speed of transmission twentyfold, also that the use of cables be permitted for cheaper telephony even between Australia and New Zealand.

It is estimated that each major seadrome would cost from £300,000 to £500,000, and would be very steady in the worst storms. Each minor seadrome, with a beacon light, wireless and aeroplane would cost £.'39,000 to £59,000.
