THE MARKET BASKET
GLUT OF STONE FRUIT FISH IN SHORT SUPPLY On account of the wet weather, prices for fruit and vegetables have changed considerably over the past week. Stone fruits particularly have been affected as producers have been flooding the markets with fruit, on account of the possibility of ripe rot. Large quantities of cooking peaches are available at as low as 6d a dozen. There are also quantities of inferior and split tomatoes available. The weather has been favourable to vegetable production, and there has been a distinct easing in prices of cucumbers, spring marrows and carrots. Fish are particularly scarce on account of the unfavourable weather and summer iishing restrictions. Prices, however, are unchanged.
