TEMPERANCE WORK
A social gathering was held in the J.C.L. tearooms on Monday morning in honour of Mrs. Clark, retiring treasurer of the Auckland district Women's Christian Temperance Union. Mrs. Hugh Kasper, who presided, expressed pleasure at seeing so many members present, and on behalf of the gathering, she handed to Mrs. Clark an oriental cake stand as an expression of esteem and appreciation. Mrs. Clark also was presented with a bouquet. A meeting of the district executive followed. The resignation of Mrs. Barrett, district evangelistic superintendent, was received with regret, and Miss MoKenzie was unpointed in her place. Mrs. Maungapai Babbington, of Orakei, was appointed Maori superintendent. The following resolution was passed: " That this meeting of the district executive expresses appreciation of the various Churches in showing temperance posters on their wayside pulpit boards." It was also decided to send a letter of thanks to the Mount Eden Borough Council for its decision not to allow cinema theatres to open on Sundays,
