Y.W.C.A. AFFAIRS
Mrs. A. D. Campbell presided at a full meeting of tho board of directors of the Y.W.C.A. held recently. Numerous letters of thanks were received from organisations with regard to the visit of Miss A. M. Moncrieff. Plans were made for tho world's week of prayer, tho opening service for tho world being the one to be held on Mount Eden at sunrise on Sunday, November 10. Arrangements were made for a women's gathering on Tuesday, November 12, as well as for periods of intercession each day of the week from November 10 to 17. An encouraging report of tho finance campaign was given, the amount raised to date being over £2OOO, of which £SOO was the result of a suburban canvass. Preliminary plans were made for a flower show to be held in February. It was reported that the Progressive Club was organising a floral fete and queen carnival as its contribution to the finance campaign. The committee for the Holiday House, Blockhouse Bay, advised that plans were being made to open for the Christmas and New Year season, after which the children of the Leslie Orphanage would occupy the camp for three weeks. Advice was received from national headquarters that the next national conference would be held at Paraparaumu, near Wellington, during Easter. A letter was received from the new general secretary-elect, Miss Elsie Bennett, at present associate-general secretary of the Melbourne Association, advising that she would be arriving to take up her new duties in the beginning of the next year. A garden party in aid of funds, which would be held in February, was suggested as a fitting opportunity for the first welcome to Miss Bennett.
