DISTRESS AND POVERTY
WOMEN'S UNITED PROTEST In support of the recent meetings conducted by leading churchmen to protest against the poverty and distress that exist in Auckland, a public meeting of women is to be held early next month. The meeting, which will bo representative of every class, is being organised by women who are in close personal with a large amount of distress and who feel keenly the plight to which so many of their fellows have been reduced through no fault of their own. Medical women, social workers, business women ana others who are known in the public life of Auckland are among those who are on the committee which is organising the meeting. The Rev. A. J. Greenwood will preside. Among the matters to be dealt with will be the unemployment situation and the exclusion of women from benefits or sustenance, although they are contributors to the fund. Other anomalies of present conditions also will be dealt with.
