ELLERSLIE TRAINING

CALIENTE WORKS NICELY SOLID ROUND ON THE TAN PASHA AND GAY DEFENCE BY ARCHER Some smart gallops wero recorded at Ellorslio yesterday, whon the No. 1 grass and the tan wero used for galloping. Tho going was good on both tracks and conditions were favourable except for a fairly stiff breeze. Calicnto's round on tho tan in 1.52 was a good effort and others to work well included Pasha, Gay Defence, Vera Acre, King Mestor, Valspear, Bay or a and Teddy Boy. On the grass Maine strode over half a mile in 55 4-5s and was anxious to go faster. She has put on condition since joining F. Gilchrist's stable and appears to be doing well. Rereatu was going easily alongside Zane Grey at tho end of four furlongs in 53 4-ss. lloyal Appellant, after running the' first furlong iin los, completed fivo in 1.10 2-5, going comfortably throughout. He looks an improved horse and may this season fulfil the promise ho gavo as a two-yoar-old. Royal Appellant went through tho wholo of his three-year-old career without winning, so that a victory for him is well overdue. Ringshot aud Professional placed six furlongs behind in 1.22 4-5, the last half-mile in 53 4-ss. These novices are showing improved condition and doing everything required of them very satisfactorily. Vera Aero Pleases Bayora and Toddy Boy sprinted half a mile in 50 3-ss, with little between them at tho finish. Bayora displays a nice turn of speed and Teddy Boy's fourth in tho Nonnanby Handicap, won by Mazir, on the second day of the recent spring meeting, was encouraging. Pasha and Gay Defence wero both running on nicely at the end of five furlongs in 1-4 1-5. Pasha, whoso operation for respiratory trouble appears to have been a success,' benefited by the race he had at the spring meeting. Gay Defence went with his usual freodom and should be dangerous at Cambridge if he runs up to track form. Vera Acre and King Mestor ran the last five of six furlongs in 1.4. Although lightly weighted, Vera Aero went pleasingly for a novice and E. S. Groat may bo able to place her to advantage at some of the coming meetings if sho retains her present rato of progress. lloyal Broney, assisted over tho last three by the Vaals—Miss Melva filly, covered six furlongs in 1.19 4-5. He was carrying a fair weight and finished strongly. The Vaals filly is not very forward, but hit out with freedom.

On Parado and Whirlmint was going easily to run half a mile in 56 4-ss. With tho benefit of his recent outings, On Parade should bo more forward next time he races than at any previous stage of the current season. Roman Mascot ran six furlongs very comfortably in 1.23 3-5. Hunting Maid sprinted three furlongs in 40 3-ss. Valspear went nicely over the same distance in 375, He has not bsten overtaxed since racing unsuccessfully at Avondale, but is carrying a very bright appearance and should be in fine trim to contest the novice events at Te Rapa. Eiltowyn and Petrarch

Baroscope worked steadily over a round, Lady Diana assisting him over the last half-mile. There was no pace on early, but Baroscope quickened speed at the five furlongs and went very freely. It' is doubtful whether ho has ever looked better and it should not be for lack of condition if he fails to raco well at Cambridge. Kiltowyn and Petrarch were associated over a round in 1.53 3-5, the last half-mile in 52 l-ss. Petrarch went in good style, for a hunter and Kiltowyn was going very easily at the finish. It is probable that Petrarch will leave for Cambridge to-morrow. No decision has yet been made as to which race he will contest on Monday. Primak sprinted half a mile in 51 2-ss. The two-year-old Marjory Daw was allowed to stride along over three furlongs and hit out nicely. She appears, to be steadily on the improve.

Gascillo and Green Patch encompassed a round, in 1.56 1-5, the last half-mile in 52 3-ss. Gascille, who covered a good deal of ground, infused a lot of dash into his work and seems to have benefited by his recent racing. He is to contest the Hunters' Hurdles at Cambridge on Monday and should have excellent prospects. Two-Year-Old Sprint Haputale was slightly in front of Docility when three furlongs had been completed in 39 l-ss. These youngsters both have plenty of size and are making steady progress. Haputale displays a nice turn of speed and should have prospects when ho is more forward. On tho tan Caliento (Walsh) went soundly over a round in 1.52, Enlightenment assisting ber over the last six furlongs in 1.20. Caliente is looking a picture and her solid condition should assist her on Saturday in tho Wellington Handicap, in which she is likely to take a lot of beating. Enlightenment also worked nicely and seems to be becoming a little more solid. Hawthorn (Baker) gave a good display over ' six hurdles. To Kapia (Baker) was schooled over three hurdles, and, although inclined to jump very high, acquitted himself very satisfactorily for a beginner. He has improved considerably in condition sinco coming to Ellerslie. TRAINING AT ADDINGTON INTEREST IN AUSTRALIANS [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] CHRJSTCHUKCH. Tuesday Track and weather conditions at Addington to-day were ideal for training, and a fair amount of fast work was accomplished in view of the Oamaru and Gervmouth meetings. The Australian horses Evicus and Emilius Way wero among the early workers and tho latter received a second's start from her stable-mate and Bessie Parrish. Emilius Way made the running for the greater part of tho journey, but in tho straight the others ranged alongsido and tho three finished almost on terms. Evicus and Bessie Parrish took 4.34 l-ss. and Emilius Way a second longer. The three did their work with plenty in hand, and are quite ready.for immediate engagements. Tempest and Wrecker received threo seconds' start from Chancellor over two miles. Tempest was tho pacemaker for most of the way,' but over tho last part Chancellor ranged alongside and finished with a fine hurst of speed. He was not fully extended and had no trouble in registering 4.38, The three-year-old Gaillard showed dash in working a mile and a half without the hopples in 3.37. He is one of the favourites for tho New Zealand Derby. F. Holmes gave Graham Direct a stirring work-out over two miles in 4.31. The mile and a half was covered in 3.29, nnd Graham Direct finished very strongly over the last half-mile in Im. 2s. He is one of the early favourites for the Jubilee Handicap at Oamaru. Grand Mogul. Iraq and Rongomai wont a. mile and a half, tho last mile and a quarter in 2.57, and Tndianapolis did two miles in 4.31, a very satisfactory trial.
