SHIP STILL HELD UP NEGOTIATIONS CONTINUE POSSIBLE SAILING TO-DAY By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright (Received October 14, 9.5 p.m.) SYDNEY. Oct. 14 The seamen by a large majority again decided against manning the liner Niagara. Further negotiations are in progress and satisfactory arrangements may be made to enable the Niagara to sail tomorrow.

If the negotiations fail, however, it is said the vessel will either be laid up indefinitely or taken by a volunteer crew to Vancouver,, where firemen and deck hands will be signed on under Canadian articles. Trades union officials are anxious to avoid an extension of the trouble, as a new industrial award, covering shipping, is due for delivery in Melbourne on October 21. All passengers who remained on board the Niagara on Saturday in the hope that a crew would be forthcoming have now left the vessel. A number have cancelled their tickets and even if the ship had sailed to-day there would have been only about 80 passengers on board. Had the Niagara not been delayed at Sydney she would have left Auckland for Vancouver to-day, taking mail scheduled to reach London on November 12. The Matson Line steamer Mariposa, however, which will leave Sydney to-morrow and Auckland on Saturday, will carry mail which also is due in London on November 12.
