LARGE GALLERY AT LINKS KEEN INTEREST IN PLAY The opportunity of seeing tho visiting British lady golfers in play, coupled with tho ever-increasing popularity of golf, was responsible for many hundreds of people being at the Auckland Golf Club's links, Middlemoro, yesterday. Tho gallery comprised mostly prominent golfers belonging to tho Auckland and kindred clubs, although the fascination of seeing tho British team in action accounted for many other spectators. No moro picturesquo setting for such a scono could well be found than Middlemoro, with its fine old trees, its vividly green fairways and its attractivo clubhouse. Tho visitors and members of tho competing North Island toam woro the guests of honour at a luncheon civen by tho cominitteo of tho Auckland Ladies' Golf Club. Tho long table was decorated with low. round bowls of schizantlius and cinerarias in tones of mauve, shading to rich purples. In tho main dining room vases of English cornflowers and shaded nasturtiums were used with wonderful results. The loungo and main hall were massed with lovely flowering cherry blossom, tall vases of Argentine sweet ,poas, and ranunculi in tones of rose and cherry. The British team comprised Mrs. P. Hodson, Mrs. J. B. Walker, Mrs. W. Groenlees, Miss Phyllis Wado, Miss J. Anderson and Miss Pam. Barton. The North Island players woro Mrs. E. L. Barker, Mrs. I). S. Deighton, Miss W. Barns Graham, Miss P. Helean and Miss 0. Stevons.
