DIOCESAN HIGH SCHOOL

POSITION MAINTAINED An opinion that tlio Diocesan High School is maintaining its position and that there are hopeful indications of an increase in numbers next year is sta ted in a report presented at a sitting of the 28th Synod of the Anglican Diocese of Auckland yesterday. "The average number at the school during the year was 210," stated the report. "This, of course, does not represent the full capacity of the school. However a comparison of these figures with those of the previous year shows that'the school is maintaining its position. The year has been one of quiet steady work and several successes were gained in music, the most outstanding being in the porformors L.A.B. examination.

"The year closed with a small debit balance, which, in the circumstances was a satisfactory result. Since the close of the financial "the board has received notice of two bequests. One from tho late Miss Nina Tait Horton of tho sum of £.' 100, with the request that if practicable the legacy shall be added to the endowment funds of tho school; and, secondly, from the late Archdeacon Cole, who has been a generous friend of the school anonymously during his life. Notice of these bequests was received with great satisfaction by tho school cotfacil, indicating as they do the very gratifying appreciation of the school from persons in a position and competent to judge of its work."
