DOCTORS' FEES
Sir, —Little purpose is served by quoting isolated cases of doctors' philanthropy on the one hand or demands for high fees on the other. I have paid two guineas for a visit from a doctor eight miles away, but, on tho other hand, have met with very great kindness and consideration in critical times, but such cases prove nothing. The important fact is that there is a large class of people who, though in financial straits, either from pride or an inherited tradition of honesty, prefer to pay their way and, while the fee is half a guinea, this class will necessarily keep away from a doctor as long as possible—too long, perhaps. Those political parties promising some schemo of national health control at the forthcoming election will secure many supporters. Hard Won.
