BABY SUFFOCATED

DEATH IN PERAMBULATOR EVIDENCE AT INQtJEST [from OCR OWN correspondent] PUKEKOHE, Thursday A verdict that (loath had been caused by suffocation was returned by the coroner, Mr. C. K. Lawrie, at the inquest to-day regarding the death of Roger Allan Cressey, the four and ahalf months old son of Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Cressey, West Street, Pukekohe. Mrs. Cressey said she fed the child at 6 a.m., when he was in good health and laughing and playing. He went to sleep as usual at 7.30 a.m. She bathed the child at 9.15 a.m., and at about 10.20 a.m. placed him in his perambulator on a verandah. About 20 minutes later she found the child had his head buried in the perambulator clothes. Sho picked him up and he was 'imp, with his eyes disc.oloured. She i ushed with him to a doctor. The child had not been healthy at birth, and was taken to the Karitane Home for a fortnight. Since then he had been perfectly healthy. • Dr. H. Stewart Douglas said the child appeared well nourished. When brought to him, the body whs still warm, but the face was cyanosed. Artificial respiration was immediately commenced and hot water bottles applied. Two injections of andrenalin were given to the heart, but at no time was there any response to the treatment. In his opinion death was duo to suffocation. It was quite possible for the child to have twisted his head sufficiently while in the perambulator to have caused suffocation.
