THE MEAT AGREEMENT
MINISTER CONGRATULATED SOUTH ISLAND COMPANIES [BY TELEGRAPH —SPECIAL REPORTER] WELLIICGTON, Wednesday Congratulations to tho Minister of Finance, Mr. Coates, on his success in completing the meat agreement with tho British Government have been expressed by New Zealand-owned freezing companies in tho South Island in a telegram forwarded by Mr. D. J. Shea, general manager of tho Canterbury Frozen Meat Company, Christchurch. "Wo desire to express our grateful appreciation and thanks for tho statesmanlike manner in which you again, as in the case nt Ottawa, so successfully negotiated the recent meat agreement in London," the telegram states. "We appreciate tho intricate nature of the protracted discussions and your success is all the more meritorious in viow of what at times seemed to us to bo tho almost hostile attitude of Australia in its endeavour to secure increased quantities. My own board wish to be associated with this message."
