AMERICAN NAVY
CONSTRUCTION PROGRAMME FURTHER CONTRACTS PLACED (Received September 10, 5.5 p.m.) WASHINGTON. Sept. 9 The increase of the United States Navy to treaty strength will be possible soon. The Navy Department to-day placed contracts for the construction of 23 vessels, including an aircraftcarrier, a 10,000-ton cruiser and the remainder of the destroyers and Bubmarines in the programme.
