FARMER'S GOOD FORTUNE MONEY TO PAY OFF PROPERTY [BY TELEGRAPH —rRESS ASSOCIATION'] WAIMATE, Tuesday The dinner of tho first prize in the art union was Mr. Alfred Hawke, a married man. aged 42, with a daughter aged nine. He is a dairy farmer occupying 30 acres, and a returned soldier. , At first he was unable to believe his good fortune and stated the money would be acceptable. He had had a hard road to travel and intends to use the money to pay off his farm. The ticket was purchased at the last moment and was probably the last sold ir< Waimate.

NEWMARKET WOMAN'S LTTOK CHANGE OF PLAN WINS £250 The winner of the third prize of £2.50 is Mrs. L. Flashman, of 7 Station Street, Newmarket. "I could hardly believe it when I heard that 'Zane Grey' had won the third prize," said Mrs. Flashman last night. "A fortnight ago I had intended to go to the Pakuranga Hunt Club's race meeting at Ellerslie- and put 2s 6d on Zane Grey in the first race. Instead, I decided to buy an art union ticket. Zane Grey did win the race but I would have won only about 7s that way." Mrs. Flashman said the money could not have come at a better time. Her husband owned a small milk-vending business and was badly in need of a little extra capital. All the prize money would go into the business.
