JAPANESE FAREWELL
MESSAGE TO THE MAYOR HOSPITALITY APPRECIATED Appreciation of the hospitality extended to the company of the Japanese training ship Shintoku Maru' was conveyed in a wireless message received by i the Mayor, Mr. Ernest Davis, yesterday morning from the commander of the vessel, Captain N. Hayashi. In his message, which was despatched from the Shintoku Maru on Monday evening, when the vessel was off the Auckland coast, Captain Hayashi said: "Kindly accept most grateful appreciation of officers and cadets for your generous hospitality. Best wishes." The following reply was sent to the vessel yesterday by Mr. Davis:—"Auckland wishes you all a safe return to Nippon."
