VESSEL'S LONG CAREER
THE SCHOONER ISABEL DEPARTURE FOR KAIPARA After being over two months in port, during which time she has been overhauled and refitted, the auxiliary schooner Isabel, of 54 tons, sailed for Kaipara last evening to be utilised in the cargo service between Dargaviile and Helensville. This marks yet another stage in the vessel's unusually long career, as she is probably the oldest sailing vessel in sea service in Australia or New Zealand. She was built at Prince Edward Island, Canada, in 1867, and three years later was registered in Dublin. After many years in the British coastal trade she made a prolonged cruise to the Antipodes and reached Sydney early this year after an adventurous voyage of IS months from England. Later the Isabel was taken to Fiji, where she was employed in the interisland trade before she was sold to her present owners, who purchased her for the Kaipara River service. She reached Auckland from Suva on June 23.
