WHANGAREI BRANCH The Town Hall, Whangnrei presented a bright and colourful scone when the Plunket Society held its annual children's fancy dress party on Thursday afternoon. The hall was gaily decorated with greenery and profusion of flowers, these, added to the colourful decorations of the various costumes and stalls, making the scene a delightful one.
The Gardening Club had a display of (lowers and plants, this being in the charge of Mrs. Eric Thnewell and Mrs. A. 1\ Morgan. Other stallholders were: —Competitions, Mrs. D. L. .Ross, Mrs. P. J. O'Hara and Mrs. F. Tebhutt; baby stall, Mrs. C. J. Malloy, Mrs. J. D. Mitchell and Mrs. Armstrong; lucky dips, Miss R. H. Thomas', Mrs. Finery ami the Misses Bain and McLean; fancy work, Mrs. S. Clayton riiorne, Mrs. \V. A. Christiansen and Mrs. J. (1. McLcod. The tea room was in the charge of Mrs. \Y. T. Surman assisted by Mrs. W. 10. Crawford, Mrs. C. Emanuel, Mrs. A. C. Lamb, Mrs. G. Roberton, A 1 iss .1. Rishworth and .Miss M. Peat.
The grand march created great interest and was well carried out. The judges were Mrs. C. Bisset and Mrs. A. i). Jack who awarded the prizes as follows: —Best pair under six years: Lesley Gunn, as a fairy; Munro Wilson, as a soldier; special prize: Jill Goodwin, as a huntsman. Most, original : girl. Merle Dunn, as bottle milk; boy, Noel Woods, as an All Black. Most original, over six years: girl, Pat Crosby who represented an alarm clock; boy, Peter Surman, as a fire alarm; Mrs. Goodwin's special prize for the best pair: Marion Smith (Hikurangi), as a bowser and Ray White (Hikurangi , as Jean Ratten. Best girl, over ID years: Prudence Wright, as "folly"; special prize presented by the Plaza Theatre: .Veil Haden, as " Jiggs " and Boris Haden, as " Maggie ' ; best pair, over six years: Nancy Clark, as a Dutch girl, and Bill Bedlington, as the Knave of Hearts; special prizes: Shona Mitchell and .lean Council, as a Louis XV., bridal pair. The prizes were presented by the deputy-Mayor, Mr. G. H. Morrish. who congratulated the society on the splendid success of the function. A ball for adults was held in the evening by the society, this proving equally successful. The members of the committee were: —Mrs. S. Clayton Thorne, president, Mrs. D. J.
