AUCKLAND DRAINAGE

Sir, —J. was very pleased to see Mr. Potter's letter on this subject in Friday's issue, and I trust other men of influence will use their best endeavours to prevent the spoliation of beautiful Brown's Island, which we all must admit is one of Auckland's beauty spots. Everything points to a west coast outfall, which, although more expensive, would bo by far the most successful. both for now and the future. The decision as to where the outfall for our drainage shall be is of immense importance to tho tuturo population, and [ trust tlioso who are responsible will see to it that our harbour is kept sweet and fit to bathe in. A tank steamer, .1 am told, is impossible for Auckland, although Sydney, with its population of nearly a million, uses that method to convey their refuse to deep water. J.A.H.N.
