COMPULSORY HALF-HOLIDAY
Sir, —It would be difficult to imagii anything more absurd and uncalled f< than the petition presented to Parli ment on tho question of a compulsoi Saturday half-holiday. The proposi action is entirely unnecessary, as tl community already has the power adopt voluntarily Saturday closing if so wishes. The absurdity of the prese request lies in tho fact that places o serving the Saturday half-holiday ha' already got all they are entitled to ai any effort on their part to coerce tho •who have chosen a different dav won be an intolerant interference in oth people's business. Finally we have tl anomaly of the petition originating a small town that itself observes tl Wednesday half-holiday 1 W. Johnstone.
