WOMEN'S DIVISION

Organising Tour.—Airs. C. K. Wilson, Dominion president of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union, is at present busily engaged in organising branches in North Auckland. At Whangarei she addressed a well-attended meeting. Mrs. A. C. M. Finlayson presided. An outline of the history, development and aims of the organisation was given by Mrs. Wilson, after which many questions were asked and answered. In the evening she addressed a meeting in the Mata Town Hall, and later in the week she visited Maungakaramea, Whakapara, Hukcrimu. Towai, Ivawakawa, Pakaraka and Kaeo. She also intends visiting Ohaeawai, Kaitaia and various branches on the west coast before returning south. Ngarua.—Mrs. Donovan presided over a large attendance of members. Mrs. Fitzgerald gave a demonstration of coloured paper pictures. A competition for the best biscuits was won by Mrs. James, with Miss Pipe second. Mrs. Lo Galias was judge. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Clements, James and Hayes. Te Arolia. —The meeting was held in Mrs. Bullman's tearooms, Mrs. Hair presiding. Songs were given by Mrs. Deed, Mrs. Hair and Mrs. Eastwood. A cooking competition for scones, fancy and plain, was won by Mrs. Hair, with Mrs. Lennard second for plain scones; Mrs. Hunt first and Mrs. Landman second for fancy scones. The hostesses wore Mesdames Kilpatrick, Franklin, Weston and Wilkie. Kercpeehi.—There was a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting, over which Mrs. McLarin presided. A report on the Dominion conference was given by Mrs. W. Shilton, who had attended as a delegate. Mesdames McLarin, Shilton and Gray were appointed delegates to the Thames Valley provincial meeting, to be held in Paeroa. A competition for the best article made from one yaM of cretonne was won by Mrs. Gray, with Mrs. Gordon second. The offer of Mrs. Jamieson to donate a knitted pullover to be raffled in order to raise funds for a sick person was accepted. Members of the Farmers' Union were the guests of the branch at luncheon. Ngatea.—Mrs. Cleave presjded over a good attendance of members. A tribute was paid to the memory of a late member, Mrs. D. Williamson. A report on the Dominion conference was given by Mrs. Cleave. The roll call was "My Earliest Recollections." It was decided that members should have a calf drive during August to raiso branch funds. Puru. —Mrs. Bovaird presided over a large attendance of members at a recent meeting. A sub-division of native members was formed, with Mrs. Murphy as president and Mrs. Taylor as secretary. Ten new members wore enrolled. A plain and fancy dress dance was organised by the branch and was a great success. From the funds received, material was purchased with which to replenish the community chest. A cake competition was won by Mrs. Wood, and an article of clothing suitable for the community chest by Mrs. Norton. The roll call was "A Cheap Meat Dish." It was reported that a housekeeper had been placed and a sick case satisfactorily dealt with. Miss Clegg presided over another meeting, when the roll call was an old garment for remaking for the community chest. A competition for the best plate of biscuits was Avon by Mrs. Louden*
