WINTER WOOL SALE
WELLINGTON OFFERING CRUTCH INGS KEENLY SOUGHT FAIRLY LARGE ORDERS FILLED [BY TF.LEGRAPn —OWN CORRESPONDENT] WELLINGTON, Tuesday Considerable interest centred to-day in the winter wool sale held by the Wellington Woolbrokers' Association. The offering was unusually large, totalling 4873 bales, comprising 2996 bales of crutchings and 1877 bales of fleece wool. There was a large, and for the time of the year a fairly representative bench of buyers. Competition, especially for crutchings, was very active, and a number of buyers filled some fairly large orders. Crossbred crutchings brought the highest prices, Lest making from 7d up to 7*jd per lb. Halfbred and Merino crutchings were not greatly sought after and many lots were passed in, the bidding for these sorts being somewhat erratic. Jn view of the improvement in the wool market during the last few months it had been expected that there would be a good sale for fleece wools. The bidding, however, was not particularly keen, and in many cases it was plain that growers' ideas of values were well in excess of buyers' limits, with the result that there were many passings. Best Merino fleece wools, of which there was only a small offering, made lOd to 123 d, and halfbred brought Old to llfd. In crossbreds average 46-48's made 8d to BJd; '44-4G's, "Jd to 8d; and 40-44's, 6|d to "id. The range of prices was as follows: — Merino crutchings, ojd to 6Jd; crossbred crutchings, super, 6}d to 7£d; crutchings, and inferior, 3£d to s£d; locks and stained pieces, 2d to 4Jd; Merino average, lOd to 12£ d; medium halfbred, average, 9jd to lOd; extra fine crossbred, average, BJd to 9sd; super, B{d to 10jd; inferior, 6Jd; low crossbred, average, 6Jd to 6Jd; lambs, 50-56, 7§d to 9Jd; fine, 44-50, 7d to 9£d; seedy and inferior, 4d to 7(1; halfbred crutchings, 4}d to 7d; crossbred crutchings. medium to good, 53d to 7Jd; crossbred pieces and bellies, 3jd to 63d; fine halfbred, average, 9jd to 113 d; fine crossbred, average, 7Jd to Bjd; inferior, 7Jd; medium crossbred, average, 6|d to 8-jd; coarse crossbred, average, 6>}d to 7sd; hoggets, 48-50, 9Jd to 10Jd: hoggets, fine, 46-48, 7Jd to B{d; bellies and pieces, halfbred, low to medium, 6d; crossbred, good to super. s}d to 6Jd; low to medium, 2d to 3d.
