TRANSFER OF LICENCE QUESTIONS BY COUNSEL Objections to several questions put to a witness were made during the hearing of an application for the transfer of"the sight-seeing licence from Auckland to Titirangi from H. A. Johnston (Mr. Macky) to A. J. Rodgers (Mr. Lncas), nt n. meeting of tlio Transport Licensing Authority yesterday The chairman, Mr. J. A. 0. Alium, presided, and with him were associated Mr. E. C. Blomficld and Mr. I. Hanna. An objection to the application was made by the Auckland Bus Company (Mr. Vialoux). In evidence, Mr. Kodgers said he had purchased Mr. Johnston's service and vehicle for £750. The licence entitled hiin to run only in one week out of every three. The Auckland Bus Company and J. Rimmer ran the other two weeks. Mr. Rodgers said he had been engaged as a land salesman for a number of years. Mr. Vialoux: I think you will agree that the land agency business reached its peak in 1925, and since then has declined. Are you getting out of the business ? Mr. Allum: There is no need for that question. All the authority wants to know is whethor Rodgers is financially able to carry on the service. He has paid £750 in cash, so ho can hardly be indigent. I don't care whether it is his or someone else's money as long as he has it. • In reply to a. question by the chairman whether he intended to operate the service in the terms of the current licence, witness stated that he would probably form a company with himself as one of the shareholders. He had purchased the licence for himself. When Mr. Vialoux said he believed that witness' representative approached both the Auckland Bus Company and Mr. Rimmer with a view to buying their services, the chairman repeated that ha did not care where the money was coming from. The transfer of the licence was granted
