ONEHUNGA WATERWORKS
STATEMENT BY THE MAYOR The report published yesterday concerning Onehunga waterworks was commented upon by Mr. J. Park, Mayor of Onehunga. He said that the report made it appear as if the waterworks department was in a very bad state. While certain improvements were badly needed, owing to the circumstances under which the engineer was working, all the blame could not possibly be placed upon him, Mr. Park said. It would be realised that a report intended essentially to give a basis for debate conveyed quite a different impression when published. "I wish to state emphatically that the pumping engineer has not been given three months' notice of dismissal," he added. "There have been certain conditions imposed upon him which, 1 have no doubt, he will be able to fulfil to the satisfaction of the council and myself." Mr. Park added that the whole of the equipment at the station had been installed in accordance with requirements and regulations of the Auckland H!; (trie-Power Board and the Public Works Department.
