QUEEN VICTORIA'S STOCKINGS

A small parcel was delivered by band to the matron of the Harrow Hospital recently. It contained: A faded but still legible menu of Queen Victoria's dinner at Balmoral Castle in her Diamond Jubilee; a pair of silk stockings, said to have been worn by Queen Victoria; and a cambric handkerchief from the wardrobe of the Prince Consort. The menu consisted of foods simply cooked. They included fried whiting, trout, grouse, roast beef, pheasant, chicken, oysters, tongue and cold beef. With the parcel was a note from the unknown donor, stating that the articles were a gift on the occasion of the present Jubilee. It is understood that the gifts are from a, woman whose family had close J associations with the Royal Family in Queen Victoria's time.
