YEHUDI MENUHIN'S VISIT
A REMARKABLE CAREER The famous youthful violinist Yehudi Menuhin will give three concerts in the Auckland Town Hall commencing on Tuesday week July 2. The plans open on Wednesday, full details being announced to-day. The story of Menubin's life is very interesting. His career has been one long succession of triumphs, and at 18 years of ago Europe, England and America have acclaimed his genius. His parents wisely exercised great care in his upbringing. It was their wish that he should remain a thoroughly normal, healthy boy, and to tins end his public appearances were limited to two months in each year. When he was fourteen months o'ld the family moved to San Francisco, where the parents, being music lovers, were regular attendants at orchestral concerts. As there was not much money and they could not afford to hire a nurse they were forced to wrap the baby in a big shawl, arm themselves with an extra largo bottle of milk to ensure his quietness, and take him with them to t the concerts. To their amazement, the baby completely disregarded both the milk and shawl and evinced great interest in the orchestra. From that time the little Yehudi was a constant attendant at the afternoon concerts, and within two years he was denfnnding .a fiddle. Thinking to satisfy him the parents obtained a toy fiddle, to which the infant genius took* an immediate dislike and smashed. It did not sound right. But for the generosity of a musitfal enthusiast it is doubtful whether the world would have known the boy wonder, for the money was provided to buy a real violin. All the family speak several languages.
