AFTER TWELVE YEARS
MAN WHO DISAPPEARED INTEREST UNDER A WILL [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday A road contractor disappeared from a Public Works job in Canterbury some years ago. He left clothing and a motor-cycle behind and was never seen again. . This strange case provided an unusual background to an action in the Supreme Court, when the Court was asked to presume the death of May George Frederick Maddison, who was one of the beneficiaries under a will, so that the balance of the estate could be divided among the other beneficiaries. Maddison was last seen when engaged on a contract job at a creek near Cust 12 years ago. Evidence was given that he had previously been seriously in debt. After he disappeared his father paid his debts and completed the contract. Mr. Justice Northcroft adjourned the case to allow counsel to make further inquiries, especially of people in the district from which the man disappeared. Inquiries to date have proved fruitless.
