SERVICE ON JURIES
WIDENING LIABILITY STEPS BY MINISTER Advice was received from the lion. J. G. Cobbe, Minister of Justice, at yesterday's meeting of the Auckland' Chamber of Commerce executive, that steps had been taken to widen the list of men liable to be called upor for jury service. The chamber had protested in February in regard to the inconvenience occasioned commercial rren who were frequently called for service. The Minister also drew attention to the fact that if a juror thought ho had had more than his fair share of jury service in any one jtirv year be should apply to the sheriff for exemption. "If the applicant is able to establish hardship and applies promptly, I feel sure the application will receive favourable consideration by the presiding Judge," stated the Minister. I.t was added tiiiat it was not considered advisable, on account of practical difficulties, especially in the circuit Supreme Court towns, for any amending legislation to be introduced.
