PLUNKET SHIELD

AUCKLAND TEAM SELECTED MATCH AGAINST WELLINGTON The selectors to the Auckland Cricket Association, Messrs. X. C. Snedden, H. Duncan and W. B. Smith, have chosen the following team to meet Wellington in the Plunket Shield match against Wellington at. Eden Park, commencing on January 18: H. G. Vivian, captain (Parnell). P. E. Whitelaw (Parnell). M. W. Wallace (Parnell). A. W. McCoy (Parnell). , J. E. Mills (Eden). G. L. Weir (North Auckland). V. S. Sale (North Shore). D. B. Edmonds (North Shore). R. G. Bush (University). J. Cowie (Grafton). L. F. Townsend (Ponsonbv). The twelfth man will be chosen later.

The only alteration from the team which made the recent Southern tour is the inclusion of McCoy as the slow bowler in place of D. R. Garrard, of University. Matheson is at prosit in Dunedin, but had he been here he would no doubt have secured n place following his impressive, although not particularly successful, bowling on the Southern tour.

The newcomer, McCoy, has some fine performances to his credit during the past two seasons. He has represented Auckland several times previously in Plunket Shield matches, but during the last few seasons has been relegated in favour of Garrard. However, if McCoy manages to retain his present fine club form, he should prove a valuable acquisition Advice has been received by the Auckland Cricket Association that the New Zealand Cricket Council has appointed Messrs. O. P. Montgomery and D. L. Pyan to umpire the Auck-land-Wellington match.
