CLEARING WATERCOURSE

WORK IN COOK COUNTY [BY TELEGRATO —OWN ' CORRESPONDENT] GISBORNE. Wednesday Work of much importance to the Cook County will be commenced next week in the clearing of three miles of the Tariiheru Creek. This watercourse, which passes through Waihirere Pa and empties itself into the Tarulieru River, carries a large amount of water in time of heavy rain. During the last big flood, in February, 1032, it overflowed on to adjacent farm properties and left silt over a wide area.

The work to be undertaken will comprise the cutting and removal of willows and other obstructions from the bed of the stream. When completed it should give the large volume of water quicker access to the river in Hood time. The Public Works Department will supervise the work, winch will be done with relief labour.
