THE HARD OF HEARING
NOVEL ENTERTAINMENT An entertainment, the first of its kind to take place in New Zealand, was that presented in the Foresters' Hall, when students belonging to the League for the Hard of Hearing presented a mime entitled " The Prince and tho Fisherman's Daughter." The play, which was originally in Dutch, had been translated by Adrianna Henrietta -E. S. Knappert and was adapted, produced and stage-managed by Miss E. M. Ash, with the assistance of Mr. I. E. Nicolaus, as stage manager. Incidental music was under the direction of Miss Shutes. The play (a tragedy) told the story of a prince's unfortunate attachment for a humbly-born maiden and was extraordinarily well mimed by those who took part in it. The principal roles were played by Miss M. Eggltiton as the king, Miss N. Gallagher as the king's son fc and Mrs. K. Gasparich as the fisherman's daughter. At the close of the performance games were played and Mrs. HurdWood, Miss Ash and Miss Shutes were presented by the students with a gift each as a mark of appreciation of their services during the year. About 36 students were present.
