Miss Agnes Duncan arrived in Wellington by the Monowai from Australia this week to visit her parents Mr. and Mrs. Lan Duncan.
Mrs. It. Jones, Hamilton, Mrs. G. Dawson, Rotorua, Mrs. A. MacKinnon. Rotowaro, and Mrs. J. K. Lowe, Tauranga, are at the Station Hotel.
At a meeting of the Henderson branch of the Methodist Women's Missionary Auxiliary Mrs. Piatt presided. An address was given by Mrs. C. Binet and a special effort was made to complete the customary donation to the missionary sister's salary. Tea hostesses were Mesdames Ashton, Carey and Hutchinson-.
The women of Chile have recently been given the right to vote at municipal elections. In order to enable them to fulfill their new electoral duties with judicious understanding, the University of Chile has inaugurated a course of civic education in which experienced politicians, public servants of great,, merit and the most qualified university professors take part.< v
A sale of work under the auspices of the Roman Catholic Church was held in the Howick Public Hall on Wednesday. The Rev. Father Downey, resident priest, opened the proceedings and complimented the numerous stall-holders on the varied and useful collection of goods on the stalls. He also spoke of the valuable help received from tho surrounding districts of Pakuranga, Wliitford and Panmure. Chief among the attractive interests was the popular girl contest, arranged by medium of a copper trad and won by Miss Betty Mulville, of Whiteford, with Miss Norrie Mclnness a close second. The sale realised the sum of £65.
