MOUNT EDEN CARNIVAL CUP CHANGES HANDS FAST SPRINT BY N. CRUMP The Residents' Cup, the trophy for the 333 l-3yds inter-club relay championship, was wrested from Grammar*. the winner last season, by the Mount Eden Club's team at its carnival 'in the Mount Kden Baths last evening. From the start a lead was established and gradually increased by all five Mount Eden men, a comfortable victory finally being gained in 3m 14 3-ss. Grammar was second and Waitemata third. Tlio carnival was opened by the Mayor of Mount Eden, Mr. X. McNab, who, as patron of the club, wished it a successful season. A fair attendance of spectators saw good swimming in the supporting events as well. The New Zealand champiou, N. Crump, sprinted with much speed in the 50yds first-class handicap and followed up a win in a heat in 25s by taking the final in 24 3-ss. A.' C. Bagnall. 2s was second, J. C. Mitchell. 3s, third. The New Zealand record. 23 l-ss, is held by W. Jams, of Dunedin. An intermediate, D Webster, 19s, registered a good win in* the 150 yds broaststroke handicap. ' finishing ahead of his sister. Miss J. Webster, 15s, and G. Hager, Bs. In the 6G 2-3 yds ladies' handicap Miss G. Priestley, junior girl champion of Auckland, warded off a. vigorous challenge by Mies £. Barney, ecr, to win in 46. 4-ss. . The Auckland breaststroke champion, A. Raper. lm 40s, swam this stroke in th« 440 yds open handicap, and won by 23yds from B. Thomas, scr., who recorded 5m 345.
